When cats lick their lips it may mean that they are hungry and they tell you: "Cat want to eat…!".

Cats lick their lips to clean themselves after eating.

Licking lips may be a sign that the cat is agitated. That the cat is in a mild state of conflict.

It may indicate there are some problems (if they do it too much.)

Such as mild anxiety for something, an allergy or some obstruction in the digestive process.

Cats licks their lips as a displacement activity – When they are unsure, they do something to relieve the discomfort. For example, we can scratch our heads as a displacement activity, when we are embarrassed.

Why do cats shake their heads?

Ear mite is maybe the cause of it.

Ear mite are microscopic creatures who lives inside animals ears.

They can be transmitted even from brief contact with another cat or dog.

It is rear for human to get infected.

If your cat is scraching his ears and shake his head a lot, It's a sign for ear mite.

Ear mite possible sign is something like black dirt inside the cat's ears.

A lot of scraching and shaking, without the "black dirt", can also be ear infection.

Either way, It is a good idea to get your cat to the vet.

The vet will take a sample from the black dirt and put it under a microscop.

If he'll see this... It's Ear mite...

The treatment is probably will be some kind of ear drops, twice daily.

It is better not to pick up kittens before they are two weeks of age.

From the age of 2 weeks to 4 weeks, it is recommended to only pick them up briefly.

Young kittens can be picked up by the loose skin at the back of their necks. The Same way as their mothers move them around.

Kittens are very light and it will not heart them.

But, never lift a grown cat by its neck. It can heart him.

Safe way to pick up kittens and grown cats:

Approach the cat from his side. One open palm, up, on the belly, behind the legs in the front.

Second hand, over the back and under the belly close to the hind legs. Pick the cat up close to your body.

He will feel secure because of the good support.

Hairballs – trichobezoars

Hairballs are part of cats life.

Cats swallow lots of hair on each session of grooming. Their tongue is grasping and pulling dead fur and they swallow some of it.

Most of the hair is being digest and comes out of their body through the digestive system.

Our pets gastrointestinal tract is made to process fur.

Some cats which has a strong digestive system don’t usually form hairballs.

Other cats cannot digest the fur and it accumulate in their stomach or small intestine.

Hairballs may cause discomfort, in appetence and frequent vomiting.

To get rid of the hairball, cats will often vomit. A long ball of fur with food particles will be the result.

Good quality food can help against hairballs forming.

A rich fiber diet can help against hair balls forming.

There are hairball remedies.

Brushing your cat may help against forming of hairballs.

Help against hairball, or even preventing it completely - once a week, give your cat a Table spoon of canned pumpkin which is full of fiber.

Smaller hair balls go through the system, and sometimes it causes discomfort and pain because of constipation.

If the hairball completely block the intestine it may be deadly!

Such hairball may required a surgery to remove it and save the cat's life.

Dry hacking usually after a meal is normal.

Two hairballs or less per month is in the norm.

To produce a hairball, when the dry hacking starts should take 24-48 hours. A visit to the vet would be a good idea if the hairball doesn’t come out.

My cat is not hiding from me anymore!
Finally I can write this post...
"My cat is not hiding from me anymore!"
It's been one and a half months since my cat has come to the house.
In the first 3 days she didn't eat and didn't drink and we were about to catch her and take her to the vet. (We didn't know how we gonna do that…) but, that night she started to drink and to eat!

That night my cat started crying all night. This crying period, took about a week.
The idea to make this blog came on one of those nights without sleep!

It's been like a month, that my cat was hiding all day and coming out only at nights,
when I turn off the lights she was coming out to eat, drink and play.
I felt a great relieve when she started playing, I knew she'll be fine.

In the first few days she played by her self. I wanted to play with her but I couldn’t come near her, so I was looking for an extension, to reach her from far, and we had an idea to use the peacock feathers I got as a present. It was a great idea and I recommend it as one of the best games! The peacock tail cats game!
I need to make a patent on it, because I am sure I could sell millions of feathers to all the cat's owners!
This month pass, my cat was hiding all day and she came out only at nights, when the light was off and we played with the peacock feather until I fell a sleep, sometimes with the feather in my hand.

A few days ago, I fell a sleep with the peacock feather in my hand and woke up from a small paw scratching my hand saying– "let go of the feather…! You are sleeping, I respect that… I know how important it is to your physiological needs… but I want to play! I slept all day and I am full of energy! Let it go…!"
I was so happy! She touched me for the first time!

In the last few days my cat started to come out of her hiding earlier. She doesn’t wait until night time, and she comes out on the evenings.

Playing on the bad…! It's so great, to see her like that! After so long!

Yesterday night we played together, my cat, the peacock and me, and after a long play, I fell asleep, with the feather in my hand.
I woke up from a scratch… I didn't let go so fast this time and the scratching continues… It was so exiting to know that I started to gain her trust and that she is not afraid of me, and that she initiated the touch!
If she scratched to hard, I shouted… well, just a little… If she was gentle, I praised her. It was great!
So, it took my cat one and a half months to come out of her hidings!
And even though she is hiding all day and comes out only in the evenings, I can finally say: "My cat is not hiding from me anymore!"

Cats purr is a sign of pleasure, but cat's also purr to calm themselves when they are in stressing situations. When cats purr at the vets, they cannot be checked. To be able to check their pulse or to hear their lounges, The experienced Vets found two simple tricks. To open a water tub - the sound of water stop the cat's purr. The second trick is to blow gently on the cat nose, this would also stop the purr for a short while.

I wonder if it'll work with human hiccups too...

I have read somewhere that you can know the air temperature by looking at the way your cat sleeps:

If your cat is all spread up, it's 25 C (77 F) and more.

If he wrap himself up a little it's about 20 C (68 F).

If the cat is wrapping himself up strongly with head covered with his tail it means 15 C (59 F) or less.

Cats may look lazy to us, well, they do sleep 18 hours a day…

But it is a physiological need for them. It's not laziness.

For example, the Lion sleeps 20-22 hours a day!

The problem is they sleep all day and wakes full of energy at night...!

Now, if you play with your cat just before bad time, with a fishing rod cat toy for example and give him a large meal, You have a better chance for a quiet full night sleep.

The little laser pointer is driving those cats crazy. They want to catch the little red bug so much…
It's so funny…!
The believe that cats only see in black and white was proven wrong, but they don’t give so much importance to colors. Maybe this red laser dot is something they do see in red!
If you have a new kitten, go and buy this laser pointer right away.
Make sure not to point it to the cat eyes (and not to yours).

Cats don't like sweet things, easy for them...

Researchers, who checked the tongue nerves of cats and dogs, found that dogs have nerves path to the brain that transfer -"sweet massages" and cats doesn't.

The main reason is that cats are meat eaters, and they don't need to be sensitive to sweet flavor, but maybe it is also due to the reason, that sweet things are not good for many cats and it may cause them digestive problems.

The spray bottle of water can help you a lot when you want to stop a "bad" behavior of your cat which is not right for the environment he lives in. like doing manicure on your cabinet/bed/curtains etc. or when intimidating and fighting with the other cats. (try targeting only on the attacker…)

The cone cells for color and the rod cells for contrasts, same as in the human eyes.

Some Cats and snakes things I've read:

Cats snake bites are less deadly than dogs snake bites.(at least in Australia).

If a the worst happens and your cat do get a snake bite take him straight to the vet!

Some cats get's their owner intention to a suspicious place with a special body language, and their tail is "happy" again only when the area was found safe.

Cats can catch a snake or warn us about it, but the best thing is that they prevent the snakes from getting to the house in the first place because they eat the snakes food.

Lucky me, I leave in a place with no snakes, and now that I have a cat I can sleep even better, specially because she is still under my bed all the time…

This is my Maneki Neko picture.

I got the Maneki Neko from my sister, when she came back from Japan.

As you can see, the Maneki Neko beckon with their left palm forward, which indicates that they were made for domestic use. The Maneki Neko for exports are beckoning with the back of the palm as it is customary in the west.

The "beckoning cat" Maneki Neko is a very popular charm in Japan.

Its paw is beckoning the customers to enter the shop.

The common belief is that the Maneki Neko became popular on the EDO Period.

The popularity of the Maneki Neko is probably connected to the popularity of the lucky charms connected to the sex industry, which grew along with the strengthening of the merchant’s class. Special areas for "merriment" developed and in the amusement houses there, they had good luck shelves with a charm of a male sexual organ.

Even today, in Japan they have once a year fertility festival for good harvest and a huge penis made from wood is paraded through the streets.

When Japan has opened up to the west, the government wanted to improve its image in the eyes of the western world and it prohibited displaying and manufacturing the sexual talisman. My cat is hiding

My Cat is hiding. still hiding. It's been 3 weeks since she came to the house and I almost haven't seen her at all. Off course I check that she is O.K. everyday, but I am waiting for her to come to me.

She take her time to learn the room at nights, when I'm asleep... (she doesn't know that I hear her:)

When I looked for "hiding cats" Or my cat is hiding or other searches... everybody writes that it take between 2 days to 2 weeks until they start to come out... Well, my cat is special and she decided to break that record! (I hope she wont break the world record... I heard from a friend, it took his cat 2 months! until he started to become a known persona in the house. I am not in a hurry, If she wants to hide, I say, let her hide. Jane Weatherford from Brown County Human Society Animal Shelter writes some sad statistics about stray cats.
ZERO cats were returned to their owners on the first 3 months of the year.
Last year 17 % of the dogs were returned to their owners.
Last year only 4% of the cats were returned to their owners.
Her conclusions:
Owners of cats don’t care as much about their pets as dog owners do.
Cat owners are irresponsible.
Dogs are more valued than cats.
Cats get lost easier than dogs.

Can cats find their way home?

A friend of mine told me a story about a cat finding his way back home from far away.
His brother brought the cat home on a motorcycle. He found that abandoned cat very thin and hungry, with an earring on his ear! He was abandoned for sure - I don't think he did the earring to himself to attract the females... So, he brought him home, and gave him food and shelter. A week later, their mother didn't want the cat anymore and asked them to take him far away. (don't worry, this story has a happy ending).
They try to protest but it didn't help. So, the cat was on the motorcycle again, going far away. My friends brother, drop down the cat 15 miles from home, in a another town, and U turned.
On the next day, when they went out of the house entrance, they saw the cat sitting on the motorcycle, looking at them...
This time, their mother kept the cat for the rest of his life...
