Smelling Abilities

The cat's nose is very sensitive to smells that contain Nitrogen.

This ability helps them ro reject rotten foods - "spoilt" foods, because 

these foods release chimicals that are full of Nitrogen.  

The Jacobson's Organ

The Jacobson's organ - in Latin - vomeronasal organ,  is a cat (and many other animals) olfactory sense organ. Discovered in 1813 by Ludvig Jacobson.

It is a sense that human doesn't have. A sense that is between the olfactory sense and the sense of taste.

The Jacobson's organ is connected to the tip of the cat's upper palate and it transfer sensations to the sexual centers of his/hers brain.

Ears Muscles

Cats ears can pivot in 180 degrees, and also move up and down.

in each ear cats have 30 muscles (human have 6)  and 12 or more are controlling the ear movement.

The cat use his ears as a radar. The ears can move in different directions and pinpoint the sound source without the movement of the cats head.

Pupils

The cat's pupils contract in strong light, in order to defend the retina.

There is no need for the pupil to be closed completely because the eye lids can do that.

When the light is very very strong the pupil will contract to the end and will become closed completely, but only in the middle, tiny aperture will be left on the corners.

In the picture the pupils shows it is a medium strong light.

Tounge structure

Cats Tounge - cats tounge is very long and pliable.
In the center of the tounge there are papillae for grooming .
The taste papillae is located on the tip of the tounge, on the sides and on it's base.

Noses

Cat's noses colors can be different, pink nose, tan nose,  brown nose, gray nose or black nose, depend on the color of the cat's skin. There are also cats with color combination on their cute little noses.

The basic anatomy of skeleton relate to the presence of seven cervical vertebrae, five lumbar vertebrae, twelve thoracic vertebrae, five sacral vertebrae and one to four coccygeal vertebrae.

The connection between the cat's vertebras is looser than human's vertebras connection.

It makes the cat's spinal column very pliable.

That's how the cat can make a "n" shape with his spinal column.

Surprising fact about their tounge

On cat's tongues, there are hundreds of knobs facing backward, like hooks. These knobs are being used for self grooming, for drinking water and may help in holding food or struggling with a prey.
They are made of the same material like our fingernails!

Cats don't like sweet things, easy for them...

Researchers, who checked the tongue nerves of cats and dogs, found that dogs have nerves path to the brain that transfer -"sweet massages" and cats doesn't.

The main reason is that cats are meat eaters, and they don't need to be sensitive to sweet flavor, but maybe it is also due to the reason, that sweet things are not good for many cats and it may cause them digestive problems.

Eyes Size

Cats have very big eyes in proportion to the rest of their face. If we had eyes in the same proportion they would be big as 0.8 inch.
